When a type A work permit is required
A type A work permit applies to a foreigner performing work in Poland under a contract with an entity whose registered seat is in Poland. This is the most common path when hiring workers from Asia, Africa and South America.
- The application is filed by the employer, not by the foreign worker
- The permit is tied to a specific employer, position and conditions
- A significant change in working conditions requires a new permit or an amendment

Processing times
Processing time varies between voivodeships and depends on how busy the office is and how complete the application is. Formal gaps are the most common cause of delays – that is why we prepare and check the whole set of documents before filing.
For a realistic recruitment schedule, plan on 3–5 months from the hiring decision to the first day of work.
